Māris Andžāns

I started and ended weightlifting early. My first competition was at 8 and the last at 22.

My best in competitions was 133 kg in snatch and 161 kg in clean and jerk, with my weight under 77 kg.

For most of my sports career, I competed for my home city, Saldus, and the Latvian national team. In my final sports years, I represented Falu AK from Falun in the Swedish Elite League

I won three Latvian champion titles (1999, 2003, and 2005), two Latvian junior titles (1999 and 2000), and six Latvian youth titles (1993-1996 and 1998-1999). I set over 30 Latvian records among youth and juniors.

I also won Nordic champion titles among seniors (2005), juniors (2003), and youth (2000).

My best place at the European championships was eight (I competed at three youth European championships (1997-1999) and one junior championship (2001)).

I also had decent results in squat (255 kg) and deadlift (210 kg). At a younger age, I competed in some domestic powerlifting competitions.

I finished my sports journey early to pursue education and a subsequent career. I am grateful for my time in sports, which taught me discipline, endurance, and hard work.

I continue working out at the gym a few times a week.
